Project Title: [Words]
Short Description: A website created with HTML5, CSS, jQuery, and a jQuery library called jQuery Ripples. As the user types, the view is continually distorted by rippling effects-- thereby making it more difficult to not only type, but also read.
For my project, I created a brief website using HTML5, CSS, jQuery, and a jQuery library called jQuery Ripples. As the user types, the view is continually distorted by rippling effects-- thereby making it more difficult to not only type, but also read.
Now, onto the thought process behind it.
First, I decided to tackle what a digital signal is, and, perhaps counter-intuitive to the previous thought, what a digital signal means to me or how I understand it. I ultimately decided that a signal could be considered a voice between machines, a machine and a human, and of course, humans themselves.
With that relationship defined, I began to build my concept. [Words] is an attempt at portraying social difficulties using the web interface, a user's input, and the monitor used to view the page. The monitor-- or visual feedback-- is the signal I chose to distort in the end. By the time the screen is filled with text, the resulting static and imagery make it somewhat difficult to perceive.
While the site is also available to download above, the gallery below also documents this effect. Admittedly, it was fun building something that is supposed to be difficult to perceive, rather than easy.
